Mocktails, or nonalcoholic crafted mixed drinks, have been steadily gaining in popularity for years. They have all the creativity, fun, and taste of cocktails – without the alcohol. Different from a virgin drink which simply omits the alcohol in a mixed drink, mocktails are originally crafted to create certain flavors without including alcohol. Mocktail Madness, according to a 2021 NielsenIQ omnibus survey, has a lot to do with 22% of consumers reporting that they are cutting back on alcohol consumption.
So, if you’re sober curious, extending Dry January, or just want the fun without the buzz, you might want to give mocktails a try. Here’s a recipe for a Sparking Citrus Mint Cooler that’s got summer written all over it!
Ingredients
1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
1 tablespoon agave nectar or honey (adjust to taste)
8-10 fresh mint leaves
1 cup sparkling water
Ice cubes
Sliced citrus fruits (orange, lemon, lime) for garnish
Fresh mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions
In a pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed orange, lemon, and lime juices.
Add the agave nectar or honey to the pitcher and stir until well combined. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
Tear the mint leaves and add them to the pitcher, gently muddling them with a muddler or the back of a spoon to release their flavor.
Fill serving glasses with ice cubes.
Pour the citrus juice mixture evenly into the glasses, filling each glass about halfway.
Top each glass with sparkling water, stirring gently to combine.
Garnish each glass with slices of citrus fruits and fresh mint sprigs.
Serve your Sparkling Citrus Mint Cooler immediately and enjoy!
